The main feature of our cloud-based S3 object storage is flat data storage architecture. Unlike traditional file systems that use a hierarchical directory structure with folders and subfolders, S3 employs a non-hierarchical model. In S3, data is stored using unique identifiers (keys) for each object, all of which are housed within a container (bucket).

While S3 inherently lacks a built-in hierarchical directory framework, it's possible to simulate such a structure using object key prefixes. For instance, to create a semblance of directory hierarchy, objects can be named with prefixes, like "folder1/image.jpg" or "folder1/subfolder/document.txt". This naming strategy implies a directory structure, though, in reality, it does not physically exist within S3.

The cost of object storage is composed of two main components: the amount of data storage and the outgoing traffic. Charges are incurred only for the volume of data stored on the disks and the data transferred from the object storage to the internet. Our billing system records the number of gigabytes occupied by your data and the gigabytes uploaded to the internet at the end of each hour.

We recommend using the S3 API to interact with storage, as it's the industry-standard and most user-friendly interface for cloud services. This allows for the use of various compatible tools, including AWS CLI, S3cmd, Cyberduck, WinSCP, and the AWS Java SDK, among others. For added convenience, you can also manage your storage through the 3HCloud cloud manager.

There are no limits on the amount of data or the number of objects you can store. However, we advise against using containers that hold more than a million objects since this can significantly slow down the performance of GET, PUT, and DELETE requests. If you encounter such issues, we recommend reaching out to technical support for assistance with container sharding (which includes content analysis and the sharding process itself). For optimal performance, it's best to maintain up to 150,000 to 200,000 objects per container.

We offer both public and private containers. Objects in public containers can be accessed through a direct link. To access objects in a private container, you'll need authorization credentials (Access Key/Secret Key).
