Public clouds are environments in which computing resources are owned by independent third-party providers. For this purpose, users need access to the Internet. At the same time, the resource of public clouds is shared among all users, which can be called a multi-tenant environment. A private cloud has fundamental differences and is a more secure and scalable server.
How do private clouds work?
Private clouds are computing infrastructures, each of which is owned by only one person or company. That is, the resources of a particular server are not available to other users. Special attention should be paid to the management of a private cloud. Server resources can be placed and fully controlled by the organization. Private clouds are distinguished by flexibility and scalability, the user or company can not only take as a basis for the resources and existing infrastructure, but also to create an individual, which is suitable for solving the required tasks.
What is the difference between private cloud vs. public cloud?
As discussed above, the public cloud is a server with resources shared among many users. This solution allows you to reduce the cost of memory for consumers and use a pay-as-you-go model for megabytes used, but it also has some obvious weaknesses. For the most part, this includes the security of stored information. At the same moment private servers are available only to one company or person, which makes information storage completely safe.
What is the difference between private cloud vs. hybrid cloud?
Hybrid cloud is considered to be the most convenient and efficient type of cloud environment today. This technology is a mixture of public and private cloud. That is, for storing some important information, the user can use a private environment, but for transferring and storing less important data - public. Thus, the hybrid cloud offers businesses incredible flexibility in many areas.
Advantages of a private cloud
The private cloud has a number of strengths and the most important one is that users do not draw on shared computing resources. The proprietary model of private clouds and cloud computing makes this environment ideal for enterprises with unstable computing needs. If we summarize all the strengths of the private cloud, we get this list:
- High level of autonomous network security;
- Excellent performance due to the individual allocation of computing resources to a single enterprise;
- Many possibilities for adjustment, e.g. specialized software, which is suitable for companies in a certain segment.
Disadvantages of a private cloud
Of course, the private cloud cannot be perfect and it has a number of drawbacks. The first disadvantage of the private cloud environment is technological, as the methods used in the private cloud greatly complicate corporate IT. Enterprises are required to reorganize certain infrastructure to work with such technologies. Not to forget the costliness of installing a private cloud, though for the most part this issue does not lie with the consumer. Compared to public clouds, private environments are much more expensive and this is a very significant disadvantage.
Types of private clouds
When considering private clouds it's worth mentioning the most popular types, of which there are only three these days:
- Hosted: When in a private cloud, servers are not shared with other organizations;
- Virtual: A virtual private cloud is some sort of isolated environment inside a public cloud.
- Managed: This type of private cloud is simply a situated environment within which the provider controls all aspects for the organization.
Managed private cloud pricing
We have already mentioned that the public cloud is significantly cheaper than using a private cloud. This feature stems from the implementation of the system, and more precisely from the investment on internal maintenance. However, this does not make it so uneconomical, as in some cases using a private cloud is even cheaper than the usual public environments.
What is cloud management?
The cloud is controlled by administrators who manage all the services and products that exist in the cloud. There are a number of tools designed for cloud management. They greatly simplify the process and make all the tasks more understandable even among ordinary people.
Private Cloud Examples and Use Cases
An example of a private cloud environment can be any area that needs increased management capabilities. A private cloud is more amenable to detailed control and customization to meet project requirements. Most often, private clouds are purchased by companies that are not afraid to overpay.
